The meeting was held at the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce building in Salt Lake on Monday July 20, 2010 from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 p.m.
Piura, Peru is in the northern region of Peru and the most affluent region in that country. Peru is one of the few Latin American countries where the US has a Free Trade Agreement and the playing field is level for US companies. The Regional President, a position on par with a state Governor, will be leading a delegation of senior officials which will include the presidents of two of Peru’s Universities along with business leaders. The Peruvian officials will be setting meetings with Utah business, education, and government leaders.
This is the third reciprocal visit between Utah and Peru since 2008. Previously Piura, Peru invited representatives from Utah to visit Piura in March to explore and develop the business possibilities between Piura and Utah as well as visit the new port which services Peru and Brazil. As a part of that business trip Utah Senator Madsen represented the State of Utah. He was accompanied by Utah State University representatives and the Honorary Consul for Peru in Utah.
The Piura region initiated the relationship with Utah with their first visit in October 2008 when they visited with the Governor's Office of Economic Development, the World Trade Center of Utah and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. A collaborative agreement was signed by the Piura region and the Salt Lake Chamber in 2008.
There is no cost to attend this business event, however, space is limited and an RSVP is required to dfranca@utah.gov. Utah companies will also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the government officials following the luncheon. These meetings will take place between 2 - 7:00 p.m. Space is extremely limited and will be allotted on a first come first served basis. You must RSVP prior to July 15.
